Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu massage is a Japanese manual therapy that integrates traditional Japanese bodywork with principles from Traditional Chinese Medicine. It involves applying sustained pressure using the fingers, thumbs, palms, and sometimes elbows to specific points along the body’s meridians, which are associated with the flow of vital energy (Qi).
Unlike oil-based massages, shiatsu is typically performed over clothing and emphasizes rhythmic, static pressure rather than muscle kneading. The practitioner assesses areas of tension, imbalance, or stagnation and works to restore energetic and structural balance through precise touch.
Shiatsu is commonly associated with stress reduction, relief of muscular tension, improved circulation, and support for nervous system regulation. It is also frequently explored for issues such as chronic pain, headaches, fatigue, digestive discomfort, and sleep disturbances, with the goal of supporting the body’s natural capacity for self-regulation and balance.
